Training Opportunities

Please see attached our Autumn Prospectus for full details of our upcoming courses and workshops.

Assessor Training

Date: 21st September 2010

DLDC is offering tutors the opportunity to attend a FREE one-day training session which will provide a detailed overview of the methods used to assess Open College Network (OCN) provision.  Previously this has been delivered as a 3 day course at a cost of £115.

As part of DLDC's quality assurance system, it has been proven that knowledge of OCN assessment activities and methods has an increased positive impact on the quality of evidence within learners' portfolios. DLDC also recognises the difficulty in releasing staff to attend training and has decided to provide a condensed approach for this vital training as a way of meeting organisational needs for all parties involved.

We have arranged for delivery of this session to be provided in partnership with staff from the OCN East Midlands Region local office at their venue in Derby city on Tuesday 21st September 2010.  A booking form is attached and a venue map can be found at this link http://www.ocnemr.org.uk/main/HOME/How_to_Find_Us; further confirmation will be sent out prior to the day.

This training opportunity should be seriously considered by ALL tutors that either currently do or are intending to deliver OCN units through DLDC's accreditation centre.  DLDC is aware that some tutors may have already completed the full 3 day course previously; however, if this was over 1 year ago they should also consider attending and using the session as a refresher as there have been many changes during recent times.

DLDC is also aware of some tutors who are currently delivering and who have not yet undertaken any of this OCN assessor training; it is imperative that they now attend this session if available to ensure that DLDC can continue to support their organisations in delivery of accredited learning opportunities to their service users.

To discuss your own individual needs regarding this training, please contact me at the DLDC office.  Places are limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis so please return your booking forms as soon as possible to reserve your space on the course.

Preparation for Inspection Workshops

Derbyshire Learning and Development Consortium delivers training funded through a range of Government agencies.  The delivery of learning programmes funded through Skills Funding Agency, Young Peoples Learning Agency as well as some European Social Fund and Information Advice and Guidance is liable for inspection by OFSTED under the Common Inspection Framework.

It is crucial therefore that all members who currently deliver on DLDC programmes, and those that wish to do so in the future, are aware of the criteria for inspection and have put in place systems to manage the inspection process.

If you have any questions about Preparation for Inspection please contact Lisa Vernon, Chief Executive of DLDC on 01332 265960 or lisa.vernon@consortium.org.uk

30th September 2010 – St James Centre, Derby

You will be able to find out more about these two key areas:-

  1. Common Inspection Framework
  2. Self Assessment Report

Each workshop will last for 2 ½ hours and will cover the basic information on the impact of common inspection framework and the self assessment report and their importance to learning providers and the implications for OFSTED inspection.

10:00 – 12:30           Common Inspection Framework

The Common inspection framework for further education and skills 2009 was devised by Her Majesty’s Chief Inspector in line with the Education and Inspection Act 2006.

It is based on the common evaluation schedule which informs all of Ofsted’s inspections. It sets out the judgments inspectors will make during inspection.  This framework applies to all learning providers funded under Skills Funding Agency funding, as well as some provision funded by other government departments.

This workshop will highlight the key features of the framework and its impact on the voluntary and community sector. Participants will have a chance to look at the key features and gain an understanding of the impact it could have on the work of their organisations.

13:30 – 16:00           Self Assessment Report

The ability to make a fair self assessment of your learning provision and develop quality improvement plans plays a key role in showing your organisations capacity to improve. Increasing Voluntary and community sector organisations are finding their learning provision being inspected and self assessment reports are becoming a common aspect of funding applications and the tendering process. This workshop will identify good practice in developing self assessment reports and offer some practical tools for developing your SAR.

Please note lunch will not be provided.

Please contact Jenna Shaw on 01332 265961 or jenna.shaw@consortium.org.ukto reserve your place.
